Koh Chang is the third biggest island in Thailand, so finding accommodation to suit your budget and taste can be a bit of a minefield. On Koh Chang, you’ll be able to find anything from a basic beach hut for a few hundred Baht, to 15,000 Baht¬†which will get you a luxury beachside villa. The majority of accommodation can be located down the west coast of the island, where all the main tourist areas can be found.

The Stage is a great value resort located in the centre of Kai Bae village, only a 10-minute walk away from Kai Bae beach. The accommodation is built around the two pools and tropical gardens, which includes 9 decent sized standard rooms and 12 cottages perched atop decking, where you can sit out on and relax enjoying the view of the mountains. Each room has been tastefully designed with a beach hut feel about it, the rooms all have air conditioning, flat screen t.v’s with satellite and an airy ensuite bathroom.

On the resort, you’ll find a tour desk to book excursions, an ATM and gift shop. There is also a spa and wellness centre where you can relax and enjoy a traditional Thai massage, without leaving the resort. Breakfast is unavailable at the resort, but there are plenty of places to in the local vicinity. An airport/pier transfer service is available from the resort for a reasonable surcharge.

There is a cable car running the length of the resort connecting the pools, along with the beach and the resort’s two restaurants. Spread out on the hill behind Lonely beach, the 12 bungalows at Oasis are set in a beautiful jungle-like garden, looking out over Lonely beach and the sea, making it a great place to watch the sunset. Within walking distance of Lonely beach, but far enough away to escape the noise when you just want to relax. Oasis bungalows is a great place to stay if you’re after more of a back to nature setting, rather than your typical beach accommodation.

There are a couple types of bungalows to pick from, the cheaper jungle bungalows are perfect for the budget backpacker. They are as you’d expect, basic but very clean and comfortable and comes with a fan and outside bathroom (which actually can be very refreshing), you will also find a mosquito net to protect you during the night. There is a choice of having a cold shower or hot shower bungalow, where it’s price accordingly. Your other choice is the deluxe bungalow, these are made of stone and are situated further up the hill giving you views out across the jungle and sea. These bungalows have air-con, cable tv, ensuite bathroom and free WiFi. Plus a large veranda to sit out on or laze about in the hammock provided. The restaurant is a great place to eat, serving a mix of Thai and western food. Directly above it is a treehouse where you can go and chill out with a drink and enjoy the fantastic views on offer.

Tucked away in peaceful tropical gardens in the centre of Bai Lan, Lazy Republique villas offer an intimate and personal getaway for those looking for an escape from everyday life. With only four villas on the resort, you get a real sense of home helped by the wonderful hospitality of the owners Loeng and Nathalie. The villas have been designed to be tasteful and blend in well with the natural surroundings, each one comes with an ensuite bathroom, comfortable bed, fridge and aircon. The villas are of the minimalist look but it fits in well with the all round design.

Breakfast is included in the price of the room and is freshly cooked with a decent selection to choose from.
